Our latest launch, the Junebug sprint, brings us some changes and enhancements to the closed-captioning we introduced last month. We now have interactive transcripts and the ability to display translations. We also made a little interface tweak for our closed-captioning.
Interactive transcripts
We're really excited to introduce interactive transcripts in addition to our closed-captioning. What's that, you ask? Well, it means that we have a new "Interactive Transcript" button on the video pages, which will display the full transcript for a video when you click on it. But wait, there's more! As you are reading the transcript, if you want to jump to that place in the video, just click on the line of text and you will immediately be taken to that line in the video player. That's the interactive part, and we think it's pretty slick. It is a great way to scan what is in a video and then get right to the part you need.
You can read the entire transcript for our free videos, and on all videos if you are an active member. For our regular videos you can read a transcript teaser if you aren't logged in, and we hope that gives a sense of the video in addition to our regular description.
Captions and Translations
We introduced English captions last month, and we started off with a big "CC" button on the player, but for a number of reasons, we've moved the closed-caption controller off the player screen and into the player's toolbar. You'll find it in the right-hand side of the toolbar as a CC icon you can click to toggle the captions on and off.
We can also start to include translations in the subtitles, and you will control which language with that same CC icon. We don't have any translations on the site yet, but we really hope that will change shortly! If you would like to get free access to Drupalize.Me videos for helping with translations, please submit an application, and we'll get you set up.
