New Closed-Captioning Feature Enhances Learning Comprehension

We're very excited to announce that we now have closed-captioning enabled on our videos. In addition to the help it provides for those who are deaf or hard of hearing, many learners find that they understand new concepts better if they can read what the instructor is saying, as well as hear it. This is especially true for those for whom English is not their native language. This is something we've been wanting to do for a long time, and our subscribers have asked for it, so we're happy to be able to provide it.

We've started out by captioning our recent series, Dates with Drupal 7, and we plan to transcribe more and more of our catalog over the coming months. We have over 550 videos now, so it will take a while to work through them.

You can easily see which videos have captions because we have a CC label on those videos. The CC label is also the way to toggle the captions on and off. The label will disappear when you start to play the video, but it will reappear when you hover your mouse over the video player, just like the playback bar at the bottom does. When you see the CC label, you can simply click on it to toggle the captions.

Help Us Help You -- Volunteers Needed

We know that it will take a while to get our video catalog transcribed, so if you are interested in helping us out with transcription to speed things up a bit, we're looking for volunteers. In addition to closed-captioning, we are also currently working to launch translations by the end of May. We're looking to form several translation teams, so if you can help with translations, and you'd like to get a free Drupalize.Me account, let us know! Simply fill out the application form and indicate if you want to be a transcriber and/or translator, and we'll get back to you with the details.
