We've added several new tutorials to our free Hands-on Exercises: Movie Project, which dive into module development. The first 16 exercises covered site building and theming. These latest additions continue to develop the same movie review site. They require you to start building your own custom modules to add a custom form for adding movie information to the site and use an external API to find and grab the information you need. This is a special series in that these are exercises to test your skills instead of tutorials that teach you, and they are based on the openly available Drupal projects from Damian Robinson.
We've received good feedback about the exercises we've published so far, and we've made some improvements to make it clearer what the expectations and prerequisites are for each exercise. You should already know how to build a Drupal site before wading into these practical exercises. You are provided with the wireframes for the site you are building, and each exercise details requirements for some aspect of building and theming the site. We also provide resources that you can use to refresh your memory about how to accomplish a particular task.
The new exercises we released are:
- Alter a Node with a Custom Module
- Change a Page Programmatically
- Create a Form
- Validate a Form
- Create a Node from a Custom Form
- Fetch and Attach an Image File
- Create Taxonomy Terms Programmatically
If you work through this project, let us know how it went for you!
