Want to learn how to create awesome Drupal 8 themes? Prefer to learn in-person, through a combination of presentations and hands-on exercises? Join Blake and me at our Drupal 8 Theming workshop, which takes place on Thursday, March 30th from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Registration is just $40.
Create awesome Drupal 8 themes
This workshop will familiarize front-end developers with Drupal 8's theme system. Whether your goal is to theme your personal site, pass the Acquia front-end developer certification, or upgrade your skills for a job, our goal is to provide students with a solid foundation on which to start and enough knowledge to continue to practice and learn on their own.
Here's what we're planning to cover in this all day workshop:
- How the Drupal theme layer relates to the rest of the system
- Common theming terminology and processes
- How to override any of Drupal's HTML output
- The relationship between base themes and sub themes
- Everything you need to know about Twig when working with Drupal templates
- How to add both custom and 3rd party CSS and JavaScript libraries
- Tools for introspecting and debugging a theme
- Tips & tricks for using common front-end development tools, like CSS preprocessors and task runners, in conjunction with Drupal
This workshop is based on our extensive Drupal 8 Theming Guide, and attendees will get one month of access to the guide after completing the training so they can re-live the fun over and over as many times as they want.
Theming not your thing? There are 3 other full day trainings to choose from.
Attend the camp
On a more personal note, I'm super excited to attend MidCamp this year. It's been on my list of camps I would like to go to and it's relatively close to Minneapolis, but for various reasons I just haven't made it yet. I'm not going to miss it this time though.
In addition to the training day on Thursday, there are two full days of sessions on Friday and Saturday. The call for sessions is still open so we don't know for sure what the camp schedule will be yet. But, there are already a bunch of submitted sessions that I would be happy to be able to attend. I also enjoy these session days because they provide a great opportunity to spend time hanging out with friends in the Drupal community in person. In fact, that's one of my favorite parts about local and regional camps like this. I know for certain many of the people in the midwest who are using Drupal will be there, including a contingent from Minneapolis. And who doesn't want to spend a weekend nerding out about Drupal with their friends?
There's also a sprint day on Sunday, where it looks like there will be a first time sprinter workshop, as well a various other contributor sprints taking place. While I don't know for sure yet what I'll be doing, I know for sure I'll be there, probably either helping mentor, or maybe trying to organize a documentation sprint. Either way, it's bound to be fun, and hopefully productive. I hope to meet you there!
