Webform Basics Configuring and Creating Webform Nodes
  • 0:05
    with Amber Himes
  • 0:07
In this lesson, we'll configure Webform content type
  • 0:11
defaults and add our first Webform node.
  • 0:14
First, you'll want to make sure you've got Webform module
  • 0:17
downloaded to your Drupal 7 site using
  • 0:20
FTP or Drush, whichever you prefer.
  • 0:22
In this lesson, I'm using version 7.x-3.19, which at the time of this
  • 0:29
recording was the recommended release for Drupal 7 sites.
  • 0:33
I've already downloaded and enabled Webform using Drush.
  • 0:36
When I return to my site and navigate to Modules
  • 0:40
and scroll down, I can see that Webform is enabled
  • 0:45
and that no other sub modules exist in this package
  • 0:48
that might need to be enabled.
  • 0:50
If you need to enable Webform at this time, check the box
  • 0:54
and click the Save Configuration button.
  • 0:57
Now we can close the overlay and get started.
  • 1:01
Now that we have Webform enabled, we can
  • 1:03
set the defaults for all Webform nodes.
  • 1:06
I'll navigate to Structure, Content types.
  • 1:09
And because we have Webform enabled, we can see a new Content type here
  • 1:13
listed alongside the Drupal 7 defaults, Article and Basic page.
  • 1:17
I'll click on the Edit operation.
  • 1:20
I'll leave the name and description as is.
  • 1:23
And going down to the Publishing Options,
  • 1:26
I'm going to uncheck Published and Promoted
  • 1:28
to Front page as the default.
  • 1:31
I can change these on a per node basis,
  • 1:33
and that's exactly what I want to do.
  • 1:34
When we create a new Webform node, we're just creating a placeholder--
  • 1:39
a place for the form to live.
  • 1:40
We haven't added our form components yet, so it won't usually
  • 1:44
make sense to publish the node right away.
  • 1:47
Under Display settings, I'm going to uncheck Author and Date
  • 1:50
information just as a personal preference.
  • 1:53
I just don't want the author and date
  • 1:55
information to display on that node.
  • 1:58
For Comment settings, I'm not going to close Comments, because that
  • 2:01
implies that you've had them open and then you want to close them.
  • 2:04
I'm going to hide them all together.
  • 2:06
And for Menu settings, I'm going to keep
  • 2:09
the available menu for Webforms to be Main menu.
  • 2:12
If you have other menus on your site,
  • 2:15
this is the place to make them available to Webform
  • 2:18
    if you so choose.
  • 2:20
    That looks good to me.
  • 2:21
I'll go ahead and save the Content type.
  • 2:24
So we've configured defaults for all Webforms
  • 2:27
and we're ready to create a new piece of content.
  • 2:30
I'll click on Add Content and Webform.
  • 2:34
We're going to add a title and a body.
  • 2:38
This body text is going to appear at the top of the Webform.
  • 2:41
It's a good idea to include some instructions or an introduction
  • 2:44
to your form in this place.
  • 2:47
For Menu settings, I'm going to keep everything as is.
  • 2:52
If I had a really long node title here,
  • 2:55
I may want to shorten that, because this
  • 2:57
is what's going to appear in the menu itself.
  • 3:00
All the defaults can remain the same.
  • 3:02
Revision information, all the way down,
  • 3:05
going to keep the defaults there.
  • 3:07
And as you can see, it's Unpublished by default, which is exactly what
  • 3:11
we want, because we haven't attached form components yet.
  • 3:14
And we don't want to publish it until we're ready
  • 3:17
    and they form is complete.
  • 3:19
    I'll click Save.
  • 3:21
And now we're ready to add form components, which
  • 3:24
is exactly what we'll do in the next lesson.
  • 3:28
In this lesson, we ensured that Webform
  • 3:30
    module was downloaded and enabled.
  • 3:32
Then we configured the default settings for Webforms
  • 3:35
and created a new Webform node with a title and body.
