Release Day: More Twig Tutorials
Blog postThis week, Leanna Pelham of KnpUniversity continues to show you how to become a Twig expert by demonstrating Twig goodies such as template inheritance, functions, tests, for and if syntax, debugging techniques, macros, and other advanced tips and tricks. Each lesson is a bite sized tutorial and includes downloadable site code that will get you up and running with Twig without getting overwhelmed.
Let's Debug Twig in Drupal 8!
Blog postWhen I am theming a Drupal site, I need to know which variables are available on a template file. In Drupal 8, the template engine is Twig, so we’re going to need to know a little bit of Twig to make this work. So, if Twig is totally new to you, don’t worry. Today, you’ll learn some Twig!
This week we have a ton of new tutorials for you to enjoy. We're very happy to bring back our friends from KnpUniversity to provide a great little series on the Twig templating system, and we're also wrapping up the entire O'Reilly Using Drupal book series with the final tutorials.
New Tutorials and Tutorial Updates
Blog postWe've been so busy adding and updating our content that we haven't had a chance to write about what we've done lately -- until now! Here's what we've been working on these past few months.
I'm sure you've heard by now that PHPtemplate is being replaced by Twig in Drupal 8. If you're a front end developer, you may be excited or afraid about how this will affect you. Let's take a look at the guiding principles behind the Twig initiative and where you can find documentation for theming in Drupal 8.
Release Day: Our Drupal 8 Theming Guide
Blog postToday, we're super excited to publish our Drupal 8 Theming guide, a collection of tutorials that will teach you everything you need to know to create amazing Drupal 8 themes. We've put hundreds of hours into researching, digesting and understanding the Drupal 8 theme system. We've poured over the existing documentation and helped to update it whenever we could. We've read the code that makes it all possible, we've dissected core and contributed themes, and talked with front-end developers at Lullabot about their experiences, in order to learn about best practices and unique challenges. And then we boiled it all down into the ultimate Drupal 8 theming guide.
Learn to Theme with Hands-On Exercises
Blog postBased on our popular Drupal 8 Theming Workshop, our new guide, Hands-On Theming (https://drupalize.me/guide/hands-on-theming), is a 7-week course of tutorials and hands-on exercises that will get you up and running with your first Drupal 8 theme. Each week contains tutorials surrounding a key concept in Drupal 8 theming. At the end of each week, you'll have an opportunity to put into practice what you've learned in the related tutorials with a hands-on exercise. By the end of this course, you'll have a working Drupal 8 theme ready for you to further explore and learn concepts in Drupal 8 theming.
To facilitate hands-on practice, we've partnered with Stack Starter (https://stackstarter.io/). To follow along with the steps in each exercise, you can use a customized Stack Starter web-based environment. You'll get a pre-configured Drupal 8 development site ready to start theming. It also includes a web-based file manager and code editor as well as a console where you can run Drush commands.
Release Day: Decoupled Drupal
Blog postToday we released a new series, Decoupled Drupal. This series walks through the basic considerations and planning that goes into deciding whether or not a decoupled approach is right for you.
This week, we've published more tutorials for our Drupal Development with Docker series, a new video series from KnpUniversity that will get you up and running with Symfony 4, a brand new set of tutorials: Introduction to Composer for Drupal Users, and another Form API tutorial.
A Guide to Drupal 8 at DrupalCon Austin
Blog postDrupalCon Austin is rapidly approaching and the big question on my mind is: What Drupal 8 sessions do I need to put on my radar? To figure that out, I've mined the schedule for Drupal 8 related talks and events and organized them a bit to help me – and hopefully you – find the Drupal 8 sessions not to be missed.
Today we've got a bit of something for both site builders and developers: we'll wrap up our multilingual series based on Using Drupal, 2nd edition and release a brand new series of Symfony tutorials from our partners and PHP/Symfony training experts over at KnpUniversity.

New Free Series: Coding Standards
Blog postToday, we’re happy to announce a new free series about Drupal Coding Standards that has been made possible by our friends at Chromatic. The Drupal community has defined a set of coding standards and best practices that you should adhere to whenever you're writing code for Drupal.
We’ve completed a major overhaul in how our tutorials are organized on Drupalize.Me. Take a look at the new Guides page and find something to new to learn about Drupal.
We’re getting ready to run another iteration of our popular Hands-On Drupal Theming workshop on July 19th, 20th, and 21st, something we haven’t done for over a year as we’ve been focused on teaching Drupal 7 to Drupal 9/10 migrations. In the process of getting ready, I’ve been going through my slides for the workshop and making some updates. Here are the things that jump out to me as important (but work-in-progress) changes in the last year.
DrupalCon Nashville is right around the corner and we're stoked to not only be attending DrupalCon, but to also be providing our Drupal 8 Theming workshop once again.
